Michael Schumacher's Watches: What Is Documented, and the Nov 9 Journe Sale
Michael Schumacher's Watches: What Is Documented, and the Nov 9 Journe Sale
On November 9, 2026 , Christie's Geneva is due to offer five F.P. Journe Ruthenium watches, all numbered 92/99 and described by Haute Time as formerly owned by Michael Schumacher . Christie's already sold a Schumacher collection in May 2024 for nearly CHF 4 million. This guide separates what the sources document: the watches he owned, the two brands that built editions around him, and the two sales. It also says where the record is thin, including who is selling in 2026.
The short answer
The 2024 sale at Christie's Geneva (eight watches, held May 14, 2024) is well documented : it was reported as organised by his family and totalled just under CHF 4 million. The five Ruthenium watches then sold as a set to one unnamed buyer for about CHF 1.7 million. The five lots offered on November 9, 2026 carry the same 92/99 numbering and models, so this is most likely a resale by a later owner. We could not read Christie's own 2026 pages, so that is our inference, not a confirmed fact. Very few watches are documented on his wrist. This page will be updated after the November 9 results.

How we label the evidence
Confirmed means a costume designer, prop department, the brand or the show itself said so, or multiple reputable outlets agree and cite a source. Reported means a single reputable outlet or database reports it. We leave out other fan speculation, and where sources disagree we say so. All prices are in US dollars and are indicative; check current listings before buying.
Watches he wore and owned (2003 to 2013)
Direct evidence of what he wore is thin. We found no dated, photo-backed identification in the pages we could read. What is documented is ownership, through the 2024 Christie's lots, plus a few statements about wear. Two of the watches were Christmas presents from Jean Todt, his Ferrari team principal at the time.
| Watch | Reference | Evidence | Where it's documented | Price (US) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Audemars Piguet Royal Oak chronograph, white gold, 39 mm, special commission dial | 25960BC per Time+Tide only; Christie's lot 130 | Confirmed | Commissioned by Jean Todt in 2003 after Schumacher's sixth title. Inscribed “J. Todt pour M. Schumacher – Noel 2003” per The Value; Ferrari emblem on a subdial and six stars per Fortune | Auction: CHF 415,800 (US$457,380) incl. premium, Christie's Geneva, May 14, 2024; estimate CHF 150,000 to 250,000 |
| F.P. Journe Vagabondage 1, unique piece, personalised dial | Christie's lot 136, c. 2004 | Confirmed | Christmas 2004 gift from Jean Todt, engraved “X-MAS 2004 – Jean Todt for my friend Michael Schumacher” and “Piece Unique” per The Value. Sources disagree on the case metal (platinum or white gold) | Auction: CHF 1,497,000 (US$1,646,700) incl. premium, Christie's Geneva, May 14, 2024; estimate CHF 1M to 2M |
| Rolex Daytona “Paul Newman” dial, steel, 36.5 mm, c. 1971 | 6262 (Christie's lot 137) | Confirmed | Ownership is in the Christie's sale. One outlet, The Value, says he wore it to a race; we found no second source for that. It has the “Paul Newman” dial but no connection to Newman | Auction: CHF 315,000 (US$346,500) incl. premium, Christie's Geneva, May 14, 2024; estimate CHF 200,000 to 400,000 |
| TAG Heuer S/el, two-tone chronograph | Not identified | Reported | Time+Tide says he was often shown wearing it in TAG Heuer's “Don't Crack” adverts, early in his career. No year given | — |
Audemars Piguet's own 2012 launch material says he wears his watches daily, including while working on his karts, and Watchonista repeats this. A caption on an SCMP article reportedly shows him wearing the Royal Oak Offshore Michael Schumacher in 2013, but SCMP would not open for us, so we do not rely on it. Reporting on the 2024 sale says he has not been seen in public since his December 2013 skiing accident.
The F.P. Journe Ruthenium set (Numbered 92/99)
Five platinum F.P. Journe watches share one serial, 92 of 99, and a ruthenium-coated brass movement and dial. The Christie's lot essays for the Octa Calendrier and the Tourbillon Souverain say each comes “from the Michael Schumacher collection” with a Christie's Certificate of Provenance. In 2024 they were lots 131 to 135 and sold as a set to one buyer, for about CHF 1.7 million (US$1.8M) together, with the original presentation box. Christie's head of watches for Europe and the Americas, Remi Guillemin, declined to name the buyer. Individual 2024 prices were not published in anything we read.
| Watch | Reference | Evidence | Where it's documented | Price (US) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| F.P. Journe Octa Jour et Nuit, Ruthenium model | No. 92/99 (lot 131 in 2024) | Confirmed | Platinum, 40 mm, c. 2004. Day/night display, date, power reserve | 2024 estimate CHF 150,000 to 250,000; part of the CHF 1.7M set (May 14, 2024) |
| F.P. Journe Octa Calendrier, Ruthenium model | No. 92/99-04Q (lot 132 in 2024) | Confirmed | Christie's lot page: platinum annual calendar with retrograde date, 120-hour power reserve, “number 92 of only 99 pieces made between 2003 and 2005” | 2024 estimate CHF 150,000 to 250,000; part of the CHF 1.7M set (May 14, 2024) |
| F.P. Journe Octa Chronographe, Ruthenium model | No. 92/99 (lot 133 in 2024) | Confirmed | Platinum flyback chronograph with date, per The Value's lot list | 2024 estimate CHF 150,000 to 250,000; part of the CHF 1.7M set (May 14, 2024) |
| F.P. Journe Chronometre a Resonance, Ruthenium model | No. 92/99 (lot 134 in 2024) | Confirmed | Platinum dual-time chronometer with a resonance-controlled twin gear train | 2024 estimate CHF 300,000 to 500,000; part of the CHF 1.7M set (May 14, 2024) |
| F.P. Journe Tourbillon Souverain, Ruthenium model | No. 92/99-01T (lot 135 in 2024) | Confirmed | Christie's lot page: “number 92 of only 99 pieces made between 2001 and 2005”. The Tourbillon Souverain was introduced in 1999 as the first tourbillon with a remontoire d'egalite in a wristwatch and won the Aiguille d'Or in 2004 | 2024 estimate CHF 300,000 to 500,000; part of the CHF 1.7M set (May 14, 2024) |
The two Christie's lot essays we could read give different production years for the series (2003 to 2005 for the Octa Calendrier, 2001 to 2005 for the Tourbillon Souverain), and we do not resolve this. We could not open WatchPro, which reportedly gives a third range. The 2026 sale also includes a different F.P. Journe, a silvered-dial Tourbillon Souverain Reference T, No. 125/01T, which Haute Time says is consigned by the family of its original owner. It is not a Schumacher watch.
Tribute and partnership editions: Audemars Piguet (2010 to 2012)
Audemars Piguet announced Schumacher as an ambassador in late 2010 (Worldtempus, article dated November 28, 2010). He said Jean Todt had introduced him to watchmaking and that his first contact with the brand was the Arnold Schwarzenegger Royal Oak. These are watches released in his name. They are not evidence of what he personally wore.
| Watch | Reference | Evidence | Where it's documented | Price (US) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph Michael Schumacher, titanium | 26568IM.OO.A004CA.01 | Confirmed | 44 mm, Cermet bezel, calibre 3126/3840, seven stars (two blue, five red) for his seven titles, red date display, 22-carat gold rotor with “MS” signature. Designed with chief artistic officer Octavio Garcia. Limited to 1,000 | US$42,500 at launch (ablogtowatch, October 2012) |
| Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph Michael Schumacher, 18k pink gold | 26568OM.OO.A004CA.01 | Confirmed | Same design. Limited to 500 | US$75,000 at launch (ablogtowatch, October 2012) |
| Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph Michael Schumacher, 950 platinum | 26568PM.OO.A021CA.01 | Confirmed | Same design with a blue strap. Limited to 100 | US$110,000 at launch (ablogtowatch, October 2012) |
Worldtempus carried the press release on October 22, 2012; ablogtowatch is dated October 19 and Watchonista December 4, so we say October 2012. Edition sizes and references come from Worldtempus alone. We did not verify later resale prices.
Tribute and partnership editions: Omega (1990s to about 2010)
Before Audemars Piguet he had a multi-year Omega ambassadorship, which Worldtempus describes as past in 2010. The start date conflicts: a Phillips catalogue essay says he became an Omega ambassador in 1996, while Time+Tide says the partnership began in 1995 and ran about 15 years.
| Watch | Reference | Evidence | Where it's documented | Price (US) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Omega Speedmaster “Michael Schumacher” Reduced, steel, 38 mm, red dial | 3510.61.00 (example dated 1997) | Reported | Phillips lot 845, Hong Kong Watch Auction SEVEN: the line was launched when he “had become a new Omega ambassador in 1996”. Made in red and yellow versions, with a black tyre-pattern box carrying his signature. Warranty card stamped October 25, 1997 | — |
Omega released several later Schumacher Speedmasters. We could not open a page that lists their references, so we name none of them. Edition sizes and reference numbers on dealer sites conflict. We found no Longines tie, and no Hodinkee, Monochrome or Revolution piece on him that we could read.
The November 9, 2026 lots
Christie's Rare Watches in Geneva takes place on Monday, November 9, 2026 at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues, with a public preview from November 5 to 8. Haute Time (October 19, 2026) says the five Ruthenium watches are offered as separate lots, in the year marking 30 years since he joined Scuderia Ferrari. Estimates are in Swiss francs, with Haute Time's own dollar conversions, which work out near US$1.27 per franc. Lot numbers were not published in the article we read.
| Watch | Reference | Evidence | Sale | Price (US) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| F.P. Journe Octa Jour et Nuit | No. 92/99 | Reported | Christie's Geneva, November 9, 2026. Described as formerly owned by Michael Schumacher | Estimate CHF 300,000 to 600,000 (about US$380,000 to 740,000) |
| F.P. Journe Octa Chronographe | No. 92/99 | Reported | Christie's Geneva, November 9, 2026 | Estimate CHF 300,000 to 600,000 (about US$380,000 to 740,000) |
| F.P. Journe Octa Calendrier | No. 92/99 | Reported | Christie's Geneva, November 9, 2026 | Estimate CHF 300,000 to 600,000 (about US$380,000 to 740,000) |
| F.P. Journe Tourbillon Souverain | No. 92/99 | Reported | Christie's Geneva, November 9, 2026 | Estimate CHF 650,000 to 1,200,000 (about US$800,000 to 1,500,000) |
| F.P. Journe Chronometre a Resonance | No. 92/99 | Reported | Christie's Geneva, November 9, 2026 | Estimate CHF 650,000 to 1,200,000 (about US$800,000 to 1,500,000) |
These lots are REPORTED, not confirmed, because we could read only one trade article (Haute Time) and not Christie's own lot pages. That article says “formerly owned by Michael Schumacher” and nothing about the consignor or the 2024 sale. The estimates are higher than in 2024. On our arithmetic, the five estimates add up to CHF 2.2M to 4.2M, against CHF 1.05M to 1.75M in 2024 and a result of about CHF 1.7M. We will update this page after the November 9 results.
The 2024 and 2026 Christie's sales
May 2024. Christie's Geneva sold eight watches from “Rare Watches including the property of Michael Schumacher”. The sale was planned for Monday, May 13, and held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, after a one-day delay that F1i attributes to a cyber-attack on Christie's. The total was just under CHF 4 million (US$4.4 million, per Timekeepers). The Vagabondage made CHF 1,497,000, the Royal Oak CHF 415,800 and the Daytona CHF 315,000, all including premium, with the Ruthenium set at about CHF 1.7 million. Those four figures add to about CHF 3.93 million, consistent with the total. Outlets differ on the date (May 13 or 14) and on hammer versus premium-inclusive prices, and we use the premium-inclusive Christie's figures.
Who sold in 2024. Fox and AP say the sale was organised by his family, F1i says it was offered on behalf of his family, and Timekeepers quotes Christie's thanking “the Schumacher family who entrusted us with the exceptional property of Michael Schumacher”. Fortune says the family approached Christie's more than a year before. We read these reports, not Christie's own page. F1i adds that the lots were only part of a larger collection.
Who is selling in 2026? We do not know. The Haute Time article gives no consignor for the five Ruthenium lots and does not mention 2024. Since the 2024 set went to one buyer and the 2026 lots carry the same numbering and model list, a resale by a later owner is the likeliest explanation. That is our inference. We cannot confirm that these are the very same five watches, who owns them, or whether they came from the family. The same article names a separate family consignment, the Reference T tourbillon, which is a different watch from a different original owner.
Fit with other racing guides. For other drivers' watches see Ayrton Senna, Niki Lauda and Jackie Stewart. The Rush and Ford v Ferrari pages cover racing on screen. The Daytona in his 2024 sale had a “Paul Newman” dial, a collector nickname explained on our Paul Newman guide, and our Geneva auction preview covers the wider November sales. For the brands see Audemars Piguet and Omega Speedmaster. The hub is famous people watches.
Update. We will update this page after the November 9, 2026 results, with hammer and premium-inclusive prices if Christie's publishes both.
Myths and mix-ups, corrected
- “The five Journe watches on sale in November are straight from the Schumacher family.” Nothing we read says so. The family was reported as the 2024 consignor, but those five sold to one buyer. Haute Time does not name the 2026 consignor.
- “The Ruthenium watches are 92 of 99 pieces in total.” Each of the five models was made in an edition of 99, and this set carries number 92 in each. The five are not one edition of 99.
- “His Daytona is a Paul Newman watch.” It is a ref. 6262 with a “Paul Newman” dial, a collector nickname. We found no link to Paul Newman.
- “The Audemars Piguet and Omega editions show what he wore.” They are partnership and tribute releases made in his name. The one statement we found about daily wear comes from the AP launch coverage.
