House of Cards is not a show where watches carry the plot, and this guide says so up front. Netflix's political drama (2013-2018) gives Frank Underwood a run of IWC watches, with the Portugieser named most often, and puts Claire Underwood in Cartier Tanks. A handful of supporting characters are tagged with Breitling, TAG Heuer, Rolex and Victorinox watches. Every identification below comes from a retailer blog or a fan database, so each one is labelled with how well it is documented.

The short answer

No costume designer, production source or brand statement we could find names a single watch in the show. The IWC link is repeated by many watch blogs but never traced to IWC or the costume department. Several outlets call Kevin Spacey an IWC ambassador, while one of them also calls him a “friend of the brand”. The best-supported identifications are Claire's Cartier Tank Louis (W1529856, named by two sources) and Doug Stamper's Breitling Navitimer 01 . Costume designer Johanna Argan is credited from the second half of season 2, but none of the pieces we read about her work mention watches.

Doug Stamper(Michael Kelly) Breitling Navitimer 01 (black dial, steel)
Remy Danton(Mahershala Ali) TAG Heuer Monaco 40th Anniversary Limited (blue dial)

Peter Russo and Thomas Yates(Corey Stoll and Paul Sparks) Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000 (Peter Russo); Victorinox Infantry Chronograph (Thomas Yates)

How we label the evidence

Confirmed means a costume designer, prop department, the brand or the show itself said so, or multiple reputable outlets agree and cite a source. Reported means a single reputable outlet or database reports it. Community-identified means fans identified it from screenshots in a cited community thread, which we flag as unverified. We leave out other fan speculation, and where sources disagree we say so. All prices are in US dollars and are indicative; check current listings before buying.

Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey)

Various IWC Portuguese wristwatch models

Frank is the show's most documented wrist. Watch blogs agree he wears IWC, with the Portugieser family named most often, and one says he mostly stops wearing a watch in season 4. None of this is traced to the production or to IWC.

Watch Reference Evidence Where you see it Price (US)
IWC Portugieser Chronograph (steel) IW371445 per SwissWatchExpo Reported Called his everyday watch by a retailer blog (May 2017), with no season given. Luxury Bazaar also lists a steel Portugieser Chronograph (40.9 mm) ~$4,000-$5,240 pre-owned dealer asking (retrieved Oct 2026)
IWC Portugieser Automatic (red gold) Not identified Reported Luxury Bazaar calls it the watch he wears most often. No season or episode given —
IWC Portugieser 7 Day Power Reserve (yellow gold, white dial) Not identified Reported BAMF Style says “appears to be” this model in season 3, episode 7 and first seen mid-season 2. No source cited —
IWC Portofino Automatic (steel, blue dial) Not identified Community-identified BAMF Style believes it is a Portofino in season 3, episode 8, first seen in the season 3 premiere. Some fans suggested the Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph IW390213, which BAMF says does not match the dial —
IWC Da Vinci (Automatic, possibly Big Date) Not identified Reported Named by Crown & Caliber and by Time+Tide as a dressy Da Vinci. Luxury Bazaar's identification is tentative —
IWC Spitfire Chronograph “Ju Air” and Portofino Hand-Wound 8 Days Not identified Reported Listed in passing by Crown & Caliber and Luxury Bazaar, without episodes. The Portofino 8 Days identification is described as hard to make out —

Claire Underwood (Robin Wright)

Cartier Tank Louis Cartier in gold

Claire's wardrobe is built from tailoring in a strict palette. Argan has described it as armour, and a Boston Globe interview mentions minimal accessories but says nothing about a watch. The Cartier Tank identifications come from a retailer blog and a fan database, which agree on one model.

Watch Reference Evidence Where you see it Price (US)
Cartier Tank Louis (small, 18k yellow gold, brown strap) W1529856 Reported Named by SwissWatchExpo, and by Spotern as a “perfect match” for season 5, episode 1 ~$6,900-$9,700 pre-owned; Loupe fair value $7,335 (Oct 2026)
Cartier Tank Française (small, steel) W51008Q3 Reported Named by SwissWatchExpo, with no episode given ~$2,800-$3,900 pre-owned; one dealer $3,695 (Oct 2026)
Cartier Tank Solo (small, leather strap) W5200005 / W5200025 Community-identified Spotern lists two Tank Solo entries for season 5, episode 1, one as a close match and one as a perfect match —

Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly)

Doug is Frank's chief of staff and fixer. His tool-style chronograph is one of the better-supported supporting-cast watches, though the reference is disputed.

Watch Reference Evidence Where you see it Price (US)
Breitling Navitimer 01 (black dial, steel) AB0121 per SwissWatchExpo; AB0121 is a 43 mm reference, while the 46 mm is AB012721 Reported SwissWatchExpo names it. A fan database entry (via search summary) places it in season 3, episode 7, and a Deployant reader comment also mentions it ~$4,400-$5,500 pre-owned for AB0121 (Oct 2026)

Remy Danton (Mahershala Ali)

Remy is the lobbyist and former press secretary who later runs Frank's office. His only reported watch comes from a single retailer blog.

Watch Reference Evidence Where you see it Price (US)
TAG Heuer Monaco 40th Anniversary Limited (blue dial) CAW211A Reported One retailer blog only, no season given. Loupe lists the reference as introduced in 2009 Retail $8,100; listings ~$8,000-$11,341, with a lower $5,755 market figure (Loupe, Oct 2026)

Garrett Walker (Michel Gill)

President Walker's two reported watches are both Cartier and both come from the same retailer blog.

Watch Reference Evidence Where you see it Price (US)
Cartier Tank Louis XL Power Reserve (rose gold) W1560003 Reported Said to be worn at his inauguration. One retailer blog —
Cartier Calibre de Cartier Diver (steel) W7100056 Reported One retailer blog, which calls it a sporty choice for the Oval Office —

Peter Russo and Thomas Yates (Corey Stoll and Paul Sparks)

Two minor characters round out the list. Neither identification is corroborated.

Watch Reference Evidence Where you see it Price (US)
Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000 (Peter Russo) 16600 Reported One retailer blog describes it as a status symbol. No season or episode given —
Victorinox Infantry Chronograph (Thomas Yates) Not identified Reported Spot the Watch says season 4, episode 10, in a dark video grab, and calls it a modest sub-$500 watch Under $500 per the article

What the sources do and do not say

Zoe Barnes is a character people ask about, and we found no source identifying a watch for her. Nothing we read describes a watch as a plot device, a gift or a theft in the show, so this guide has no plot-watch section. That is an absence of sources, not proof.

The show's costume designer was Johanna Argan , who took over from an earlier designer for the second half of season 2, according to Hollywood Reporter coverage we could only read in summary. She worked with Hugo Boss on a made-to-measure suit wardrobe for Frank in season 4, again per a summary we could not open in full. None of the pieces we read about her work discuss watches, so the identifications above rest on viewers matching screen grabs, not on the costume department.

Season 6 aired in 2018 without Kevin Spacey. For more on how character and watch pairings are used in a political or business drama, see our guides to Succession and Billions.

Real-world watches that echo the ones above, with indicative US prices from dealer listings in October 2026. These are editorial suggestions, not watches confirmed from the show.

Watch Why it fits Price (US)
IWC Portugieser Chronograph IW371445 (pre-owned) The watch one retailer calls Frank's everyday piece ~$4,000-$5,240
Cartier Tank Louis W1529856 (pre-owned) Claire's reported yellow-gold Tank ~$6,900-$9,700
Cartier Tank Française W51008Q3 (pre-owned) Claire's reported steel Tank, the lowest-cost route in ~$2,800-$3,900
Breitling Navitimer 01 AB0121 (pre-owned) Doug Stamper's reported chronograph ~$4,400-$5,500

Myths and mix-ups, corrected

  • “Kevin Spacey is IWC's official ambassador.” Some blogs say so, but one of them also calls him a “friend of the brand”, and we found no IWC announcement. Treat the ambassador label as unconfirmed.
  • “The costume department chose Frank's IWCs.” No source we read says who chose them. The IWC link comes from blogs, not from Argan or IWC.
  • “Claire wears the same Tank all series.” Sources name several Cartier Tanks (Louis, Française, Solo) and not all agree. One fan database lists a Peugeot watch for the same season 5 episode.
  • “Frank wears a different IWC in every scene.” BAMF Style says he mostly stops wearing a wristwatch in season 4. A tentative list of five or six IWC models is as far as the sources go.
  • “Doug Stamper's Navitimer is the 46 mm AB012721.” The retailer blog gives AB0121, which Watchprosite lists as a 43 mm reference, so the size is unresolved.
