Glashütte Original has added two aventurine glass dials to its Senator line: the Senator Aventurine Art Déco Blue in platinum (reference 1-36-16-40-03-01) and the Senator Aventurine Art Nouveau Green in red gold (1-36-16-41-05-01). Gear Patrol lists the platinum model at $40,400 and the red gold at $38,200, and Time and Watches gives EUR 37,800 and EUR 35,800. Both are 40mm, 10.2mm thick, powered by the automatic calibre 36-16 with a 100-hour reserve, and neither is limited. The brand's own page shows no price, only an appointment-based Atelier order, so every figure below is a press or retailer report.

What the new Senator Aventurine models are

The two watches are described by Monochrome and Time and Watches as part of Glashütte Original's Atelier commissions, and Time and Watches says each one is assembled in its entirety by a single master watchmaker. The Art Déco Blue pairs a platinum case with a dial in blue aventurine glass and a dark blue alligator strap. The Art Nouveau Green uses a red gold case, a green aventurine dial and a brown alligator strap with a red gold pin buckle.

Gear Patrol says these are the first aventurine dials in the Senator line. Both watches are time-only: hours and minutes with stop-seconds, according to Monochrome. The dials carry no indices, and the only printed text is the brand name and a small "Glashütte i/SA" mark at 6 o'clock. Gear Patrol describes the hands as thin and curved, in white gold on the blue model and red gold on the green one. The case is 40mm, 10.2mm thick and water resistant to 50m.

The brand page labels the platinum model an unlimited Atelier edition, and Gear Patrol says both models have been added to the permanent Senator collection. That makes them a different proposition from the numbered runs that usually carry stone and glass dials.

Aventurine glass and the Art Déco and Art Nouveau themes

Aventurine glass is made by adding metal oxides to molten glass so that tiny reflective particles form inside it. Time and Watches says the material was first produced in 17th-century Murano, and that the name comes from the Italian "a ventura", meaning "by chance". Because the inclusions fall at random, no two dial discs are identical. Each thin disc is coated in black lacquer on its reverse to deepen the effect, per Time and Watches and Monochrome.

Monochrome says the green dial draws on the Art Nouveau reverence for nature and flowing organic forms, while the blue dial takes a cooler palette from the Art Déco era. Those links are the brand's positioning, as relayed by the outlet, not a historical claim we can verify.

We have not handled either watch, so we cannot comment on legibility on a dial with no indices.

Calibre 36-16 and finishing

The movement is the in-house automatic calibre 36-16, described by Monochrome as a manufacture variant of the calibre 36 introduced in 2016. It runs at 28,800 vph (4 Hz), has a single mainspring barrel and a 100-hour power reserve, and uses an anti-magnetic silicon balance spring. Monochrome counts 27 jewels.

Time and Watches and Gear Patrol list the finishing: Glashütte stripes on the three-quarter plate, a hand-engraved balance cock, blued screws, sunburst-finished winding wheels and a skeletonised rotor with the double-G logo and a 21-carat gold oscillating weight. The caseback is sapphire, so the movement is visible. Our Senator history covers the family these watches belong to, and Glashütte Original calibres covers the movements.

Prices and availability

The brand's page for 1-36-16-40-03-01 gives no price: it says the watch is available on request, through an appointment, and that the price can vary with the clasp (pin buckle or folding clasp). Gear Patrol lists $40,400 for the platinum Art Déco Blue and $38,200 for the red gold Art Nouveau Green. Time and Watches gives EUR 37,800 and EUR 35,800. A search summary of Man of Many also pointed to AUD 55,200 for one of the models, which we did not confirm on the page.

Monochrome said prices were still to be confirmed at publication, and listed availability as October 2026 at Glashütte Original boutiques and selected retailers. Time and Watches does not state a timeline. Because the brand page lists no price, the US figure should be checked with a boutique before you rely on it. For buyers weighing other dress watches, our best watches under $10,000 guide sits well below this price tier.
