Uncut Gems Watches: Howard Ratner's Royal Oak, Day-Date and Breitling
Uncut Gems Watches: Howard Ratner's Royal Oak, Day-Date and Breitling
Uncut Gems (2019), the Safdie brothers' film about a New York Diamond District jeweller, is better known for its stones than its watches. Still, Howard Ratner , played by Adam Sandler, wears three of them, and a fourth appears in a separate scene. This guide covers each one and labels how well it is documented. The short version: every identification rests on a single outlet, and none comes from the production or a brand.
The short answer
Howard reportedly wears an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph (the reference is disputed), a yellow-gold Rolex Day-Date 36 with aftermarket diamonds, and a Breitling Chronomat . A Rolex Daytona 116520 is reported in the Garnett merchandise scene, with no stated wearer. We found no filmmaker, prop-master or brand statement first-hand, so nothing here reaches CONFIRMED. The costume designer is Miyako Bellizzi .
Who wears what: quick reference
| Character (actor) | Watches |
|---|---|
| Howard Ratner(Adam Sandler) | Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph (stainless steel, blue dial); Rolex Day-Date 36, yellow gold, diamond bezel, dial and bracelet; Breitling Chronomat (stainless steel, gilt bezel and details) |
| Everyone else, including the Garnett scene(Cast incl. Kevin Garnett, LaKeith Stanfield, Julia Fox) | Rolex Daytona (pre-ceramic, black dial, steel bezel, Oysterlock clasp) |
How we label the evidence
Confirmed means a costume designer, prop department, the brand or the show itself said so, or multiple reputable outlets agree and cite a source. Reported means a single reputable outlet or database reports it. We leave out other fan speculation, and where sources disagree we say so. All prices are in US dollars and are indicative; check current listings before buying.
Howard Ratner (Adam Sandler)
Howard is a jeweller who treats watches as stock, collateral and display. The film is set in spring 2012, during the NBA playoffs. Time+Tide says he is briefly caught flexing the Royal Oak, and the Day-Date is later stolen.
| Watch | Reference | Evidence | Where you see it | Price (US) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph (stainless steel, blue dial) | Disputed: 25860ST, 26331ST or 26320ST | Uncertain | His first watch, taken within the first seven minutes by Arno's enforcers. The model line is reported, but outlets differ on the reference: 25860ST (39mm) in BAMF Style, citing Hodinkee, and Crown & Caliber; 26331ST or 26320ST in Time+Tide | 25860ST: ~$33,781 fair market value, listings $28,999-$76,605 (Loupe, Oct 2026); indicative only, since the reference is unresolved |
| Rolex Day-Date 36, yellow gold, diamond bezel, dial and bracelet | Not stated; aftermarket-modified | Reported | Time+Tide, Oracle of Time and BAMF Style agree on the model. BAMF Style says it is stolen when he is stuffed into a trunk. Time+Tide calls it modified; sources differ on dial details (Roman numerals versus scattered stones) | Stock 118238: ~$27,316-$28,008 (Loupe, Oct 2026); ~$34,800 historical retail. The modified piece will differ |
| Breitling Chronomat (stainless steel, gilt bezel and details) | Not stated | Reported | BAMF Style only: he changes into it after the Rolex is taken. Time+Tide does not mention it | Not researched |
Everyone else, including the Garnett scene (Cast incl. Kevin Garnett, LaKeith Stanfield, Julia Fox)
No source we found names a watch for Demany, Julia, Arno, Phil, The Weeknd, Dinah or Gooey. One more watch is reported in a scene, with no wearer.
| Watch | Reference | Evidence | Where you see it | Price (US) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rolex Daytona (pre-ceramic, black dial, steel bezel, Oysterlock clasp) | 116520 | Reported | Time+Tide only: seen in the scene where Garnett sells the main character's merchandise. The wearer is not stated, so we do not assign it to Garnett or anyone | ~$20,000s to $25,600 pre-owned (Wristcheck, July 2026); discontinued |
Gaudy watches, thin sourcing
Crown & Caliber reports that Howard was scripted with two watches, and that a third was added because the Safdies thought two being stolen would be funnier. We could not read that post in full, so treat it as reported. The same post says prop master Catherine Miller was first supplied a new Royal Oak Chronograph and went back to her source for one more period-correct for 2012.
Crown & Caliber also mentions a replica-watch subplot involving Demany, without model detail. We could not verify it, so check it against the film. We found no Rolex, Audemars Piguet or Breitling partnership or placement statement, and none is claimed here. For a show with a stronger paper trail, see our guide to The Gentlemen, or browse the watches in films hub.

| Watch | Why it fits | Price (US) |
|---|---|---|
| Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph 25860ST (pre-owned) | The most commonly suggested Royal Oak reference | ~$33,781 (Loupe, Oct 2026) |

| Rolex Daytona 116520 (pre-owned) | The cameo Daytona | ~$25,600 (Wristcheck, July 2026) |
Myths and mix-ups, corrected
- “Mirren Gordon-Crozier designed the costumes.” Nylon and BAMF Style credit Miyako Bellizzi, who previously worked with the Safdies on Good Time. We found nothing linking Gordon-Crozier to this film.
- “Garnett leaves a watch as collateral.” It is a ring: his 2008 NBA championship (Celtics) ring, not a 2012 ring and not a watch. Howard later pawns his own 1973 Knicks ring, per BAMF Style only.
- “Howard's Royal Oak is a 25860ST.” The reference is disputed. 25860ST is one suggestion; 26331ST and 26320ST are others, and the shot is brief.
- “Howard's Day-Date is a stock Rolex.” Time+Tide describes it as modified, with an aftermarket diamond bezel, dial and bracelet, so no catalogue reference applies.
- “The Daytona is Garnett's.” The source places it in his merchandise scene but does not say who wears it.
