TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraph Red Bull: design and details

The case is 38mm sandblasted stainless steel . Gear Patrol notes hooded lugs that give an integrated-bracelet look, a fluted crown signed with the TAG Heuer shield and a screw-down steel caseback. Watchonista lists a thickness of 9.90mm; the other outlets we read do not give one, so treat it as single-sourced.

The dial is a deep blue sunray finish. A red minute track picks up the colour of the team's cars, and the central seconds hand is yellow lacquer, echoing the team palette. Applied indices are filled with Super-LumiNova, shield-shaped markers sit at 12, 6 and 9, and a date window at 3 o'clock is outlined in yellow, according to Luxe Digital and Watchonista.

The bezel is a blue, bidirectional TH-Polylight with a white 60-minute count-up scale. Gear Patrol describes it as a nod to the original scalloped plastic bezel without the plastic's wear. The solid caseback carries the Oracle Red Bull Racing and TAG Heuer logos over a checkered-flag motif. The watch sits on a three-row sandblasted steel bracelet with a folding clasp and an extension link. A custom gift box in the team's visual identity is included.

Solargraph movement: how the TH50-00 is powered

Inside is the Solargraph calibre TH50-00 , a quartz movement that runs on light rather than a replaceable battery. It charges from natural or artificial light and displays hours, minutes, seconds and date.

TAG Heuer's figures, as reported by Watchonista and Luxe Digital, are practical ones. One minute of direct sunlight is enough for a full day of running. Around 40 hours of light gives a full charge, which then lasts about ten months in total darkness. A watch left in a drawer restarts after only ten seconds of light. Dupont Registry adds that the accumulator is designed to last up to 15 years; we found that figure in only one source.

The practical effect is a watch that behaves like a quartz piece without the periodic battery change. The date display and 100m water resistance (10 ATM, per Watchonista, Gear Patrol and Maxim) keep it a daily-wear sports watch rather than a collector's object. For a primer on the calibre family, see our guide to TAG Heuer calibres.

A ten-year partnership and the Formula 1 line

TAG Heuer and Oracle Red Bull Racing began working together in 2016, and 2026 is the tenth season. The brand has released several earlier special editions for the team, though none of the articles we read list them. In the launch statement, quoted by Maxim, CEO Béatrice Goasglas said the partnership started from the belief that every fraction of a second matters.

The watch also continues a model line with its own history. Gear Patrol recalls that the original Formula 1 debuted in 1986 with colourful plastic parts and a battery-powered quartz movement, aimed at a younger buyer as a more affordable companion to the brand's dive watches. The new version swaps the plastic for stainless steel but keeps what Gear Patrol calls a faithful dial, bezel and case shape. The Formula 1 Solargraph was overhauled in 2025, and this is one of two Solargraph variants in the range; the other is not described in the coverage we read.

For the wider story of the line and the brand's racing ties, read our pages on the TAG Heuer Formula 1 and TAG Heuer in motorsport.

How it compares: what is new against the original Formula 1

Against the 1986 original, three things change. The case moves from plastic to sandblasted steel , the battery movement gives way to a solar quartz calibre that Gear Patrol says significantly outperforms its predecessor, and the finish is now team-specific, with the blue, red and yellow scheme and a branded caseback.

Within TAG Heuer's current news flow, it sits at the opposite end of the range from our coverage of the Carrera Chronograph Sport and the Monza Flyback Chronograph, both mechanical chronographs. This is a three-hand-plus-date quartz watch at a price within reach of most buyers in the sports category.

We could not find a reference number or price for the previous Solargraph Formula 1 models in the sources we read, so we do not make a direct price comparison. The special-edition label is the main difference in positioning, and the team colours, branded caseback and custom gift box are the visible additions.

Pricing, availability and who it is for

The price is $2,250 through TAG Heuer's website and boutiques. Watchonista lists CHF 2,100, and TAG Heuer's Australian page shows A$3,350 per search listings. Dupont Registry, Luxe Digital and Maxim describe the watch as available at announcement on October 12. Gear Patrol and TAG Heuer's own pages instead say purchase or exclusive early online access opens on October 20 (09:00 CEST per the brand's page listing). We report both because the outlets disagree.

Production is the other open question. Maxim calls it a limited edition. Dupont Registry, Luxe Digital, Watchonista and Gear Patrol say no limit has been disclosed, and TAG Heuer's page labels it a special edition. No unit count has been published.

The watch suits buyers who want a steel sports watch that never needs a battery, who follow Formula 1, or who want a modest, wearable 38mm size. Collectors looking for a numbered piece should wait for a confirmed production figure.
