The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) Watches: Belfort's TAG Heuer and Azoff's Daytona

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) looks like a Rolex film, and it is not. Leonardo DiCaprio's Jordan Belfort wears a gold TAG Heuer, Jonah Hill's Donnie Azoff wears a yellow-gold watch that reads as a Daytona but is widely described as a replica, and Matthew McConaughey's Mark Hanna wears a two-tone Datejust. This is a thin subject. No source we could read comes from the costume or prop department, so most identifications here are reported or community-made, and we say so for each.

The short answer

One watch has a real plot beat: Belfort's gold TAG Heuer, which he throws to his brokers on the day of the Steve Madden IPO after calling it a $40,000 watch. Outlets describe it as a cheap, genuine TAG Heuer 1000 Professional , and DiCaprio was a TAG Heuer ambassador. Azoff's Rolex Daytona is the most discussed watch, and its reference is disputed. We found no watch for Naomi, no theft and no gift. Costume designer Sandy Powell is credited with the clothes, but no source ties her to the watch choices.

Who wears what: quick reference

Character (actor) Watches
Jordan Belfort(Leonardo DiCaprio) TAG Heuer 1000 Professional / Series 1000 gold diver; TAG Heuer 2000 (gold, diamond bezel); Rolex Day-Date (18038, then 18238)
Donnie Azoff(Jonah Hill) Yellow-gold Rolex Daytona look-alike, black dial; Rolex Submariner
Mark Hanna(Matthew McConaughey) Rolex Datejust, steel and yellow gold (Rolesor), Jubilee bracelet
Naomi and the Stratton Oakmont brokers(Margot Robbie and cast) IWC Big Pilot (various brokers)

How we label the evidence

Confirmed means a costume designer, prop department, the brand or the show itself said so, or multiple reputable outlets agree and cite a source. Reported means a single reputable outlet or database reports it. Community-identified means fans identified it from screenshots in a cited community thread, which we flag as unverified. We leave out other fan speculation, and where sources disagree we say so. All prices are in US dollars and are indicative; check current listings before buying.

Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio)

Many viewers assume Belfort wears a gold Rolex. Watch writers say he wears a much cheaper, real TAG Heuer, which suits DiCaprio's status as a TAG Heuer ambassador, and the film makes a joke of the gap: Belfort claims it is worth $40,000. Several outlets say he wears at least two TAG Heuers, including a gold one with a diamond bezel. One source also reports an early Seiko, but we could only read that through a search summary.

Watch Reference Evidence Where you see it Price (US)
TAG Heuer 1000 Professional / Series 1000 gold diver 984.013N per seller listings only Reported The thrown watch: on the day of the Steve Madden IPO he gives a gold TAG Heuer sport watch to his employees. Outlets differ on whether it is called the 1000 Professional or Series 1000. The reference number comes from retailer listings, not from the production No reliable price found for a film-matched example
TAG Heuer 2000 (gold, diamond bezel) Not confirmed Community-identified Reported by SwissWatchExpo as a second TAG Heuer and described by Oracle of Time as a gold TAG with diamond bezel. No scene is cited —
Rolex Day-Date (18038, then 18238) 18038 / 18238 Uncertain Loupe alone says Belfort upgrades to gold Day-Dates as his wealth grows. This conflicts with the other sources, which describe TAG Heuer throughout —

Retailers list gold-plated 1980s TAG Heuer 1000 divers as “worn by DiCaprio”, but none of the listings we read gives a source, and one sold without a stated price. A separate search summary says the production supplied only one such watch and that it was later offered by Propstore. We could not read that page, so we do not state a result.

Donnie Azoff (Jonah Hill)

Rolex Daytona reference 16528 in yellow gold

Azoff's yellow-gold watch is the one most often called a Rolex Daytona. BeckerTime ties it to a ref. 16528 with a black dial and says the watch is a prop that looks real but is fake. Wrist Enthusiast calls it clearly counterfeit and says the case is too thick for a genuine Daytona. A search summary credits prop master Robert R. Griffon Jr. with saying the Daytona identification is wrong, but we could not read the interview.

Watch Reference Evidence Where you see it Price (US)
Yellow-gold Rolex Daytona look-alike, black dial 16528 per BeckerTime and Wrist Enthusiast; 116528 per SwissWatchExpo Community-identified Worn throughout; BeckerTime cites a scene with white Gucci loafers and a peach sweater. Likely a replica, per two sources Genuine black-dial 16528: about $32,000 minimum (BeckerTime, September 16, 2025)
Rolex Submariner 16610 per Loupe Uncertain Loupe alone gives Azoff a steel Submariner; every other source says a gold Daytona —

The reference is disputed: 16528 (BeckerTime, Wrist Enthusiast), 116528 (a listing linked by SwissWatchExpo) and a different watch altogether (Loupe). Treat all of these as identifications of the look, not of a documented prop. Wrist Enthusiast notes that Azoff is loosely based on Danny Porush.

Mark Hanna (Matthew McConaughey)

Rolex Datejust reference 16013
A Rolex Datejust ref. 16013, 36 mm. Illustrative only: the exact reference worn by Mark Hanna is not confirmed. Photo: anna2005 (CC0), via Wikimedia Commons.

Hanna's lunch scene, where he teaches Belfort the chest-thumping chant, comes with a two-tone Rolex. Two sources agree on a two-tone Datejust. One search summary notes it may be a convincing replica.

Watch Reference Evidence Where you see it Price (US)
Rolex Datejust, steel and yellow gold (Rolesor), Jubilee bracelet 16013 only as an unconfirmed example Reported The lunch scene. SwissWatchExpo links a ref. 16013 listing but does not confirm it is the film watch No reliable price found

Naomi and the Stratton Oakmont brokers (Margot Robbie and cast)

No watch has been identified for Naomi Lapaglia in any source we read, and we found no watch gift or theft. SwissWatchExpo says supporting characters wear IWC Big Pilot watches, and the Gentleman's Journal says brokers wear gold Submariners, a Daytona and an IWC Pilot. Both are viewing observations without references. Loupe lists a Daytona 116500LN on the trading floor, which is a 2016 reference and out of place in a 1990s story, so we treat it as unreliable.

Watch Reference Evidence Where you see it Price (US)
IWC Big Pilot (various brokers) Not identified Community-identified Reported by SwissWatchExpo; no scene or character named —

We could not read the main film-watch database or a costume or prop department source, so absence of a watch here is an absence of sources.

Film versus real life

Behind the clothes. Costume designer Sandy Powell is credited with dressing the film. Armani made two of Belfort's suits, Powell and tailor Leonard Logsdail made DiCaprio's others, Corneliani made Hill's suits and Brioni made Jean Dujardin's, all to Powell's specifications. None of the sources we read discuss the watches in that process, so we do not attribute the TAG Heuer or the Daytona to her.

The real Jordan Belfort. This section is about the real man, not the film. A Time and Tide article from June 22, 2021 says he is usually seen in a steel Bulgari Octo Roma with a slate dial and, likely, a 44 mm Hublot Big Bang Evolution, and calls these choices subtle compared with a precious-metal Rolex. A film that credits Belfort with Day-Dates is single-sourced to Loupe, so we do not present it as his real habit.

Why TAG Heuer. The stated reason is DiCaprio's TAG Heuer ambassador role, per Oracle of Time and Wrist Enthusiast. We found no film edition or brand tie-in. For the brand's wider story see TAG Heuer and the Rolex Daytona history. For the neighbouring genre see our Wall Street watches guide.

Watches that echo the film's looks. These are editorial suggestions, not screen watches, and we found no current prices we could verify for the TAG Heuer. Genuine Rolex references run far higher than the film's props.

Watch Why it fits Price (US)
Rolex Daytona in yellow gold (the Azoff look) The closest genuine counterpart to what Azoff appears to wear. The film watch is a look-alike A black-dial 16528 starts at about $32,000 (BeckerTime, September 16, 2025)
Rolex Datejust in steel and yellow gold Matches the Hanna two-tone look, but the exact reference in the film is unconfirmed Not verified
Vintage gold-plated TAG Heuer 1000 diver The Belfort look, and a cheap watch, which is the film's own joke. Retail listings were sold out with no prices shown Not verified

Myths and mix-ups, corrected

  • “Belfort wears a gold Rolex.” Watch writers say he wears a much cheaper TAG Heuer, and the $40,000 figure is the character's boast, not the price.
  • “Azoff wears a real Daytona.” Two outlets call it a prop or replica, and its reference is disputed between 16528, 116528 and a Submariner.
  • “The real Belfort wears what DiCaprio wears.” A 2021 article puts the real man in a Bulgari and a Hublot. That is separate from the film.
  • “The TAG is definitely ref. 984.013N.” That reference appears in retailer listings, not in a production source we could read.
  • “Naomi gets a watch gift.” We found no source for this.

Sources

Wikipedia and Clothes on Film for film and costume credits; Oracle of Time, Wrist Enthusiast, BeckerTime, SwissWatchExpo, Loupe and the Gentleman's Journal for watch identifications; bamfstyle for the thrown-watch scene; Time and Tide for the real Belfort; retailer listings from Craft & Tailored, Collecting.com and Grailzee for the TAG Heuer reference. We could not read the main film-watch database, the Crown & Caliber prop-master interview or the Propstore lot page, and we saw no Hodinkee, Fratello, Monochrome or Worn & Wound article on the film. Prices are in US dollars and carry their dates.
