Nomos Glashütte has given its Metro Date Power Reserve a new movement. Announced on October 8, 2026, the in-house, hand-wound DUW 4701 replaces the DUW 4401 used since 2014, adding a quick-set date and extending the power reserve to up to 52 hours . It arrives in a new ice-blue Metro Date Power Reserve (ref. 1121, US$4,500 ) and in the existing silver-white ref. 1101 (US$4,420), alongside an ice-blue Metro neomatik 41 Update (ref. 1166, US$5,390).

The DUW 4701 is derived from the DUW 4601 that debuted in the Tangente 2date and the 2025 Metro 38 Date, reworked for the Metro's off-centre displays. It measures 32.1mm across and just 2.8mm thick , with 23 jewels, a blued hairspring and stop-seconds, and it uses the Nomos swing system , the in-house escapement that made Nomos one of the few independent makers of its own regulating organs. Finishing follows Glashütte tradition: a three-quarter plate, sunburst ribbing, perlage and blued screws, visible through the sapphire caseback. What Changed: Quick-Set Date and More Power Reserve

The predecessor, the DUW 4401 , was the first Nomos movement with the swing system when the Metro launched in 2014. Its date could not be quickly advanced, so changing it meant turning the hands round the dial. The DUW 4701 adds a patented quick-set date that advances in one direction, a real improvement for anyone who rotates between watches, and raises the power reserve by about 10 hours, to up to 52 hours. The patented power-reserve indicator remains.

The new reference has a light-blue metallic galvanised dial with a three-colour power-reserve scale in white, light blue and teal, rhodium-plated hands, a light-blue seconds hand and the date at 6 o'clock. Its polished steel case measures 37mm × 8.0mm (43.6mm lug-to-lug) and is water resistant to 5 atm, with a domed sapphire crystal and a black Horween Shell Cordovan strap. Mark Braun's 2014 Metro design, with its rounded case and lugs that seem to float, remains one of the most distinctive in the Nomos range; see our Nomos and Bauhaus design explainer.

Model Reference Movement Case Price (US)
Metro Date Power Reserve ice blue 1121 DUW 4701, hand-wound 37 × 8.0mm $4,500
Metro Date Power Reserve silver-white 1101 DUW 4701, hand-wound 37mm $4,420
Metro neomatik 41 Update ice blue 1166 DUW 6101, automatic 40.5 × 9.1mm $5,390

How It Compares

With an in-house movement, a power-reserve indicator and a quick-set date for US$4,500, the Metro Date Power Reserve competes with hand-wound dress watches from far larger brands. Within Nomos it sits between the Tangente and the more elaborate Lambda. For the rest of the Metro story, from the 2014 launch to the neomatik, see our Nomos Metro history.
