Breitling Superocean Heritage Automatic 36 Goes Two-Tone: Yellow Gold Returns to Breitling's 1957 Dive Watch

Breitling has given its vintage-inspired dive watch a festive two-tone update. Announced on October 6, 2026, the new Superocean Heritage Automatic 36 combines a 36mm steel case with a solid 18k yellow-gold bezel , gold hands and gold indexes on a white dial. Two references are available: D10390A71A1S1 on a white rubber strap at US$7,100 , and D10390A71A1A1 on a steel mesh bracelet at US$7,500 . Neither is limited.

At a glance

Two non-limited references • 36mm × 10.42mm steel case, 42.84mm lug-to-lug • 18k yellow-gold unidirectional bezel with white ceramic insert • Breitling Calibre 10 automatic, COSC, ~42-hour power reserve • 200m water resistance • US$7,100 (rubber) / US$7,500 (mesh), on sale now.

Why Yellow Gold, and Why Now

The Superocean Heritage 36 launched alongside a gold-accented Navitimer Automatic 36 as part of a festive-season release. Coverage of the launch frames it as yellow gold's comeback at Breitling after years in which the brand favoured red gold, and Breitling's leadership has positioned yellow gold as a metal with unique cultural appeal. On a dive watch with a white dial, the gold bezel and handset give the Superocean a 1950s cocktail-hour look rather than a tool-watch one. It follows the 2026 Chronomat and the Top Time Aston Martin DB5 in another busy year for the brand.

Design: The 1957 Superocean, in Two Tones

The Superocean Heritage revives the look of Breitling's first dive watch, the 1957 Superocean, released the same decade as the Rolex Submariner and Omega Seamaster 300. Its signatures are here: the spear-and-arrow hands , broad applied indexes and a bezel inspired by the original's. The new models use a white dial with Super-LumiNova on the gold hands and indexes and a date at 6 o'clock. The unidirectional ratcheting bezel is solid 18k yellow gold with a white ceramic insert and gold markers.

Case, Movement and Specifications

The 36mm steel case is just 10.42mm thick with a 42.84mm lug-to-lug, so it suits smaller wrists and wears as easily as a dress watch. It has a screw-in caseback, a screw-locked crown and 200m of water resistance, under a cambered sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. Inside is the Breitling Calibre 10 , a COSC-certified automatic running at 28,800 vph with about 42 hours of power reserve; it is based on a Sellita movement rather than built in-house, unlike the in-house B31 used in larger Superocean Heritage models.

Where It Fits in the Superocean Family

Breitling overhauled the Superocean Heritage in 2025 with slimmer cases, ceramic bezel inserts and sizes from 36mm to 44mm, moving most three-hand models to the in-house B31 calibre (78 hours) and keeping the Calibre 10 for the 36mm. The modern Superocean remains the brand's bolder, more technical diver.
