Hamilton Khaki Aviation: Airmail Heritage, the X-Wind and the Pilot Pioneer
Hamilton Khaki Aviation: Airmail Heritage, the X-Wind and the Pilot Pioneer
The Hamilton Khaki Aviation collection draws on the brand's long history in the air, from timing the first US airmail flight in 1918 to supplying British military pilots in the 1970s. Its watches range from simple military reissues like the Pilot Pioneer to complex instruments like the X-Wind , and they have appeared in Interstellar , Jack Ryan and the James Bond films.

1918: The Watch of the US Airmail
On May 15, 1918 , Hamilton watches timed the first scheduled US airmail route, linking Washington, Philadelphia and New York, and Hamilton advertised itself as the watch of US mail aviators. Richard Byrd's 1926 North Pole flight was timed by a Hamilton, and in the 1930s Hamilton became the official timekeeper of the four major US airlines.
The RAF W10 and the Pilot Pioneer
From 1973 to 1976 Hamilton supplied the British military with the W10 , a hand-wound watch with an asymmetric case and the Calibre 649; RAF versions were coded “6BB.” In 2019 Hamilton reissued it as the Khaki Pilot Pioneer Mechanical , a 36mm asymmetric case with the hand-wound H-50 (from US$845). The Pilot Pioneer Mechanical Chrono (H76409530, 40mm, H-51-Si, US$2,045) recalls a 1970s RAF chronograph, and in 2025 Hamilton added a blue chronograph, a 43mm bronze mechanical and a 38mm automatic.
The X-Wind
The Khaki X-Wind is a pilot's tool: its inner rotating bezel works with the outer bezel as a drift-angle calculator , letting a pilot estimate the crosswind correction needed to hold a course. Jeffrey Wright's Felix Leiter wears an X-Wind in Quantum of Solace (2008), Liam Hemsworth wore the X-Wind Auto Chrono in Independence Day: Resurgence (2016), and Wendell Pierce's James Greer wears one in season two of Jack Ryan.

Converter, Pilot Day Date and X-Patrol
The Khaki Aviation Converter (2020) adds a slide-rule bezel for flight calculations, in time-and-date, GMT and chronograph versions (US$995–$2,145). The Khaki Pilot Day Date (42mm, US$1,075) is the watch Matthew McConaughey's Cooper wears in Interstellar. The Khaki X-Patrol (42mm, H-21 automatic chronograph, 60-hour power reserve) was launched for Hamilton's 120th anniversary.
