The Orient Star Diver 1964 brings back Orient's first dive watch, the 1964 Olympia Calendar Diver, with modern specifications. Since 2021 it has become the centrepiece of Orient Star's Sports collection, and in 2026 it led the line's 75th-anniversary releases.

1964: The Olympia Calendar Diver

Orient launched the Olympia Calendar Diver in 1964, the year Tokyo hosted the Olympic Games. It is regarded as Orient's first dive watch, arriving amid a wave of Japanese tool-watch development in the mid-1960s, alongside Orient's 1965 King Diver.

2021: The 1st Edition

For Orient Star's 70th anniversary in 2021, the brand launched the Diver 1964 (ref. RE-AU0501B), reproducing the original's design with contemporary diver specifications, limited to 500 pieces worldwide. Silver- and white-dial versions followed in later years.

2022: The 2nd Edition

The Diver 1964 2nd Edition of 2022 drew instead on another 1964 Orient, the Calendar Auto Orient, with 200m water resistance in black (RE-AU0601B) and a "dragon blue" version (RE-AU0602E).

2026: The 75th-Anniversary M42 Diver 1964 1st Edition

For Orient Star's 75th anniversary, the M42 Diver 1964 1st Edition F6 Date (ref. RE-AU0503N) arrived in March 2026. It uses a 41 × 14.5mm steel case with a 49.6mm lug-to-lug, a dual-curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, a coin-edged unidirectional bezel, screw-down crown and caseback, and 200 metres of water resistance compliant with ISO 6425. The in-house F6N47 automatic (22 jewels, 21,600 vph) provides a 50-hour power reserve with Orient Star's signature power reserve indicator, a date and hacking seconds, rated to +25/−15 seconds per day. Limited to 700 pieces, it is priced at €1,300 on a five-link bracelet with a diver's extension.

How It Compares

The Diver 1964 sits well above the Kamasu in finishing and specification, with ISO 6425 certification, a power reserve indicator and limited production, and competes with heritage divers from Seiko Prospex at similar prices.
